BreakDown started in Tucson, Arizona in 2001 by 21 year old Aimee Short (now Dobbins). The program developed and expanded its reach into Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. The National Expansion started in 2005 when the Arizona teams performed at the National Abstinence Clearinghouse Conference in Hollywood in August of that year. The original expansion consisted of a dozen teams across the U.S., and there are several international teams that have started in Mexico, Uganda, and Rwanda. It is anticipated that more teams will continue to be established in Mexico and throughout Africa, specifically in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and Northern Uganda. In 2010 BreakDown International separates from its parent organization, The Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Tucson, to become its own non-profit entity, of which Aimee Dobbins serves as Executive Director.
